8-DAY MALI TOUR, Option 2: Bamako - Djenne - Mopti - Sunset Boat Tour - Dogon Country - Timbuktu

8 Days, 7 Nights
Day 1: Welcome
Arrive at Bamako Airport; welcome and transportation to hotel.
Day 2: Bamako - Djenne
Breakfast; depart for Djenne by 4x4 passing through Segou, former Bambara capital.
Stop for lunch in San, capital of the Bobo people. Arrive in Djenne in the afternoon;
check in at hotel, siesta, then take some photos of the famous mosque of Djenne, the
world's largest mud structure, constructed in 1907. Dinner at restaurant Chez Baba.
Day 3: Djenne & Mopti River Tour
Breakfast. Djenne tour: tomb of young girl, sacred well, Koranic school, cultural
museum, old town of Djenne Djeno, founded by fishermen in 250 B.C. Lunch in Mopti at
Bar Bozo, relax at hotel pool. Pinasse river tour, visiting small Peulh villages, Bozo
fishing villages, and watch the sun set! Dinner at Restaurant Y'a Pas de Problème.
Day 4: Dogon Country
Breakfast in Mopti. Set out for Dogon Country by 4x4 passing through Bandiagara.
Trek either northern villages beginning in Sangha or southern villages starting in
Djiguibombo (your choice). Lunch at local villages; rest during hottest part of day and
spend the night in a charming campment either in a room or on the terrace under the
stars!
Day 5: Dogon Country - Mopti
Breakfast. Trek Dogon Country; visit mud houses in the cliffs built by Tellem people
7th-8th cent. that reach 200-300 meters in altitude and used today as Dogon
tombs. Have lunch, rest, and return to Mopti by 4x4, stopping at Sangha to visit
circumcision grotto. Before leaving Dogon Country, we will have volunteer tree
planting
to help fight desertification (Mali Experience Tours will provide each
volunteer with a tree of your choice). Dinner in Mopti and relax at the hotel pool!
Day 6: Mopti - Timbuktu
Breakfast and depart by 4x4 to Timbuktu with a short stop at Douentza for a stretch. We
will have the opportunity to observe the superb countryside on the way and stop for a
picnic lunch in the shade, then arrive at Timbuktu in the early afternoon. Check in at the
hotel and take a rest. Free afternoon and meet for dinner at Restaurant Hendrina Khan.
Day 7: Timbuktu
Breakfast and begin the visit of the mysterious town of Timbuktu, the city of 333 saints,
situated at the door of the grand desert. Things to see: museum of explorers, the big
museum, mosque of Djingueray Berre, Sankore Koranic University and finish at the Ahmed
Baba Library where ancient manuscripts are on display. In the afternoon, take a camel
ride to visit the camps of the Tuareg nomads and watch the sunset on the dunes. Return
to hotel for dinner and a peaceful night!
Day 8: Timbuktu - Bamako (by air)
Transportation to the airport after breakfast. Depart Timbuktu at 8 a.m. and arrive in
Bamako at 11 a.m. Welcome and transportation from the airport in Bamako. Have lunch,
visit the National Museum, souvenir market, and transport to the airport for your flight
